Approximately 25,000 households in southeastern Queensland were left lacking electricity on Monday's dawn after severe thunderstorms passed over the area, generating wind gusts hitting over 100 km/h.

Substantial Ice Stones and Extensive Damage

Locals observed giant hailstones as large as seven centimeters in some areas. Meteorological experts verified that different parts across the state had been hit with significant hail.

Victoria's Climate Difficulties

Meanwhile, nearly 1,000 energy customers in Victoria also faced energy failures after the capital city recorded its most precipitation in a year and a half.

State Emergency Services handled nearly 600 requests for assistance across the area, mostly for structural issues but also for fallen timber and flooding.

Damp conditions were expected to linger along significant areas of eastern Queensland this week as a low-pressure trough continued to pull in damp air against the coastal areas.

Tomorrow was expected to become the heaviest precipitation period, with persistent thunderstorm potential expected across different parts of both states.

Public health experts cautioned that there was an higher risk of thunderstorm-induced asthma across the northern rural areas, particularly given the current weather patterns.
